That time I was a first-year university student and very new to TIN and tax returns; I didn't file the return because I had no income! After failing for 2 consecutive years, an official reached out to me and demanded 50-100k to save my ass; otherwise, they would put me in huge trouble!
The demand was made through an intermediary (who we had to pay off as well) when we went to pay municipal taxes for our flats. But we discovered it had to be registered with NBR. Total actual fee was ~30k, and we ended up paying 150k to “regularize” our papers. On the flip side was harassment which we wanted to avoid.

I went to the Union office of my village for birth certificate and character certificate. After registration and giving character certificate, they claimed money (150 tk) as printing cost though everything is borne by govt. They actually take the money and keep in their own pockets. Nothing is paid to the government. This amount may be little for individual but thus they are illegally claiming money from many people for this minor service even though everything is free according to government rules explained in Jatiya Batayan Seba
পুলিশ ক্লিয়ারেন্স এর জন্য আবেদন করি কম্পিউটার এর দোকান থেকে তখন তারা অফার দেয় কন্টাকে দিয়ে দেন অতিরিক্ত ১৫০০ টাকা লাগবে ৭দিন এ ডেলিভারি দেওয়ার পর টাকা দিবেন আর নাহয় ১ -১.৫ মাস লাগবে, আমি রাজি না হয়ে সরাসরি থানায় গেলে আবার খরচ দাবী করে তখন বাধ্য হয়ে ১০০০ টাকা দিয়ে আসা লাগে এবং সরাসরি যাওয়া তে গুরুত্বহীন হয়ে যায় কাজটা।
I paid more than 100% of the actual service cost. They demand for instant service which I needed. The incumbents were indifferent. If it wasn't paid I didn't know when I would get my service.
If demand not fulfilled then they will issues demand notice for harassment

Due to financial issue, land related tax and other works were due. It was meant to pay the fine and make arrangements to sell the land. They showed and made to run here and there to complete the documents. Officers were not present during office time almost every day. Then settlement was done with their amount and all the works are done in 2 weeks.

My father got a plot from Rajuk in purbachal new model town back in 1999. He passed away in 2018. When I went to Rajuk to ask them to re-register that plot into our names the women told me to hand over our original documents for registration. I didn’t know anything back then so after the registration process which was another hell I went to get our original papers back she said I need to pay 50,000 taka just to get my original papers from Rajuk’s storage unit. I refused and negotiated a bit but she got furious and shouted the hell at me!
আমি গত বছর অক্টোবরে মাসে nid card এর জন্ম সাল সংশোধনের জন্য আবেদন করেছিলাম। আমাকে উপজেলা পর্যায় থেকে আগারগাঁও পাঠানো হয়। আমি আগারগাঁও যেয়ে কাগজ জমা দিলে আমাকে সেখান থেকে এক লোক কল দেয় আমার কাজ টা আর্জেন্ট করে দিবে নাহলে আবেদন বাতিল হবে। আমি বললাম আচ্ছা ঠিক আছে আর্জেন্ট করে দেন উনি আমার কাছে 10000 টাকা দাবি করে। পরে আমি উনাকে বলি আমার সব কাগজ লিগ্যাল আমি এত টাকা দিতে পারবো না। এখনও পর্যন্ত আমার আবেদনটি পেন্ডিং এ রেখে দিয়েছে। কোনো বাতিল ও করে নাই কোনো কিছুই করে নাই। আমি হেল্পলাইন এ কল দিয়ে জানাই বিষয়টি কোনো লাভ হয়নি।
