I went to the Department of Shipping to collect my Certificate of Competency. After I submitted my file, a peon for the senior officials demanded a bribe from me. I was charged 200 taka just to get a signature on a file, and then another 500 taka after my certificate was issued. This is just an example of the bribery taking place at the Department of Shipping for a simple Certificate of Competency. I want the government to monitor this situation and draw their attention to putting an end to this unnecessary harassment and bribery business. I hope the concerned officials of the Department of Shipping will investigate this matter and take action.

The officer initially demanded 12000 BDT, then after realizing urgency he demanded 3000 BDT more and threatened by saying "if you even go official or unofficial procedure in any other way, it will go through me and I will see how it can be approved." eventually forced to pay in total of 15000 BDT and corrected the NID just within 1 hour after that.
