As a business owner, I find it easier to give ghush than pay the full VAT amount. Don’t get me wrong,if given the choice, I would happily pay VAT if I knew it actually benefited my country and my people. The current system incentivizes tax evasion, as NBR officials may not raid your factory if you give them ghush. When I first started, I used to pay VAT legally, but these officials would frequently harass me and force me to pay more VAT than I was actually supposed to, simply to meet their targets. That’s when I was forced to turn to the dark side. We should all pay our taxes properly but people need to trust the system.

paid the NID name correction bribery for my mother-in-law's NID due to urgent passport renewal. The officer initially demanded 12000 BDT, then after realizing urgency he demanded 3000 BDT more and threatened by saying "if you even go official or unofficial procedure in any other way, it will go through me and I will see how it can be approved." eventually forced to pay in total of 15000 BDT and corrected the NID just within 1 hour after that.
