In 2016, I had to undergo police verification for the permanent confirmation of my employment. The officer responsible for verification at my permanent address asked me to meet him and bring certificates confirming my SSC and HSC qualifications. After I submitted the documents, he demanded money from me. I had never paid a bribe before, so the situation made me extremely uncomfortable. I initially offered BDT 1,000, but he said that a portion of the money had to be given to a senior officer. Later, a friend who was with me advised me to pay BDT 2,000. Fearing that my job confirmation might face complications, I ultimately felt compelled to pay BDT 2,000.
