I would like to share a very painful and true experience regarding land acquisition by the government. My father is a senior citizen, 83 years old. He owned 9 decimals of land in Shahjadpur, Kuril, Dhaka. About two years ago, the government acquired this land for the MRT-1 Underground Rail project. We got compensation for 8 decimals, but still haven’t received payment for 1 decimal which has been recently acquired by the government. To get the 8 decimals' money, we had to go through 6 months of harassment at the DC Office LA Division. After submitting all documents, the file was stuck. When I finally found the right officer, he demanded a bribe of 6 lakh taka. We had no choice. We paid it.
