That time I was a first-year university student and very new to TIN and tax returns; I didn't file the return because I had no income! After failing for 2 consecutive years, an official reached out to me and demanded 50-100k to save my ass; otherwise, they would put me in huge trouble!
The demand was made through an intermediary (who we had to pay off as well) when we went to pay municipal taxes for our flats. But we discovered it had to be registered with NBR. Total actual fee was ~30k, and we ended up paying 150k to “regularize” our papers. On the flip side was harassment which we wanted to avoid.
I needed a certified copy from Rajjuk an allotment order and occupancy letter. The concern person in the department demanded 1lac tk for this documents.
Mr. X from name correction (or an office beside name correction section) agreed to correct my certs for 2nd time. I went to the actual authority(Name correction section where the interviews happen) first to do it without any bribe but they were very reluctant to help me. Mr x happened to be there and took me to his office and said he would help me. Took a bribe of 1000 taka. Given the urgency of the situation I agreed to pay the bribe. He promised to do perform the correction in 3 days but it took nearly a month causing me a lot of anxiety and stress. I thought my money was gone. But after almost one month Mr. X finally delivered his promise.
I required Tax Certificates for the past 4 years. Contemporary automated tax certificates do not label the name of the companies that one has worked for, on a government letterhead. But I required that and after asking around, I was directed to visit Paltan Kor Circle-12. I laid out my query to the lead female officer (around her 50s), she said that it required them to print each of them and sign them. However, they would be charging 2k per signature and stamp for each tax paper. I told them to provide me with a receipt. They refused and said, "Apne egula kaaj koran nai tai apne jaanen na". I left without creating a ruckus, leaving it to Allah for the capital punishment.
I paid more than 100% of the actual service cost. They demand for instant service which I needed. The incumbents were indifferent. If it wasn't paid I didn't know when I would get my service.
My name was misspelled by just one letter. My actual name is Rena, but it appears as Reena on my certificate. Are they really asking for 30,000 BDT just to correct one extra "e" on my SSC and HSC certificates?

It was in 2017-18. So, I forgot about it mostly. But we waited and waited, but didn't get all the required signs; the endless line. Then we went out to buy something to eat. That's when the shopkeeper asked us why we are here and we replied. He said, he has a contact inside who can do it if we give them some money to run errands for us. ----- We went from distant district. So we paid. And the task was been completed smoothly without any more hassle or waiting endlessly. (I forget the amount of money I gave him. 500 tk is my guess from faded memory.)

My father got a plot from Rajuk in purbachal new model town back in 1999. He passed away in 2018. When I went to Rajuk to ask them to re-register that plot into our names the women told me to hand over our original documents for registration. I didn’t know anything back then so after the registration process which was another hell I went to get our original papers back she said I need to pay 50,000 taka just to get my original papers from Rajuk’s storage unit. Then settlement was done with their amount and all the works are done in 2 weeks.

In the whole process we didn't find any kind of bribery or anything else but when we went for police verification they asked for money and they said "আমরা তো প্রত্যেক জনের থেকে ১০০০ করে নিয়ে থাকি " like it was in the constitution to pay them 1000 Taka for their service and there's the first time ever I faced by bribery. And and I almost laughed at them because the way there ask for money was very funny to me. So at the end we have to pay 2000 taka for me and my mum.
